iOS Game Development Job Description

Our Company and Culture

Shenandoah Studio is a startup game company, based in Philadelphia, that is publishing games on the iPad, iPhone, and other touch-based devices. We have eight titles under license from award-winning game designers. At Shenandoah Studio, our people set us apart: we value the contributions of our bright, creative, and energetic colleagues who are committed to personal excellence each and every day. (We have fun too.)

Position Summary

Shenandoah Studio has the licensing, design, and artwork for several top-notch strategy games. We are seeking a hands-on iOS developer with some architectural and management experience who can help us create these games for the iPad and iPhone. This person will be building and leading a team to implement, test, and deliver these games and providing strategic guidance on all technology aspects of the company.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Providing guidance and recommendations on product architecture, development processes, code guidelines, and development tools
• Contributing to the selection and growth of a top-notch development team, then leading that team through the full SDLC
• Defining interfaces and reviewing code for adherence to standards and methodologies
• Writing, testing, and debugging critical segments of the product code as well as unified testing of the finished product
• Implementing Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines and overseeing the App Store approval process
• Role will be about 70% hands-on development and 30% management, mentoring, and strategy

Requirements

• Minimum 4 years overall development experience including 1-2 years coding for iOS devices in Objective-C/Cocoa/Xcode
• A link to a working iOS application that you have created or worked on
• Must have commercial software product development experience and not purely building internal or personal software projects
• Experience setting design and technology guidelines for new products
• Experience using an agile development methodology such as Scrum
• Management experience: excellent problem solving, communication, and mentoring skills
• Want the freedom and responsibility of working in an early-stage startup where your every action and decision is critical to the success and growth of the company

Preferred Qualifications

• BS/MS in Computer Science
• Any exposure to turn-based strategy games is a major plus
• Experience with Lua
• Exposure to other mobile platforms (Android, Symbian, etc.)
• Presentation skills, especially in front of investors
• An embarrassingly large game collection
• Sometimes said of you by others: “You spend too much time playing games!”
